NASCAR has come and gone to So Cal for 2012. And when it does comes to So Cal once a year, everyone stands up and notices. Weather your a fan or not, it effects everyone in some way. Weather it be the world famous traffic, or the lack of people around town on Sunday or all the people that come to town for the race weekend something is different during the NASCAR weekend. Did Sunny Southern California live up to its nick-name? Kinda. Rain was in the forcast for Sunday, so all on-track activity on Friday and Saturday went off with out problems, but the clouds opened up Sunday around 1:45pm. The question remains, was it a good weekend or not for race fans, the Auto Club Speedway and NASCAR?
Overall, it was a great race weekend despite the fact that the cup race ended early. Some fan questioned NASCAR call to end the race without waiting the rain out. With lights the 2 mile race track, fans wanted to see the race finish later that night, however, mother nature had other plans. The rain started around 1:45pm local time and didn't let up until after midnight the next morning. Fans did get their money's worth during the Auto Club 400 on Sunday, despite the fact the race was caution free until the rain started. We saw great racing out at the speedway in Fontana, side-by-side racing was the theme of the day and green flag pit stops had fans on there feet for most of the day. The best part of the weekend for the Auto Club Speedway was not only the fact that we saw a great crowd on hand for the race, but the fact that a lot of the fans in the stands where first timers! The talk online was that a lot of the fans in the stands that do come to the speedway in Fontana every NASCAR race, where teaching all the new fans about the sport and answering questions. This is not only good for the Speedway but great for NASCAR as a whole. In the past, there have been talks about repaving the Auto Club Speedway and even leaving the track all together. If NASCAR or the fans need any reason to Stay in So Cal, just watch the highlights from the racing this weekend, then come talk to us.
